Dr. Thanni
The Beginning 1950s
Dr Thanni was born in Malaysia in 1949 but soon after moved back to India due to economics and family responsibilities.

When he was about 9, his father passed away on the way to seek medical assistance after suffering a heart attack. Being from a very humble background, this created a lot of adrenal stress for him and he soon developed the auto-immune diseases of arthritis and eczema.

Studying Medicine 1970s
This inspired him to concentrate his efforts towards becoming a doctor at a very early age to ensure that someone was available to provide medical aid to people in his hometown if ever such a situation arised. This ambition stemming at such an early age was further compounded by his daily struggles with eczema and arthritis.

He again moved back to Malaysia as a young teenager.

Eventually he returned to India to study Medicine and received his MBBS degree.

Malaysian Army 1980s
After graduation, he returned back to Malaysia and served a few years in the Malaysian Armed Forces.
The First Clinic 1980s
Later he worked in Penang and other states as a doctor and eventually started his own medical practice in 1977 in Johor Bahru Malaysia and this clinic was named Klinik Rakyat or the “Citizens Clinic” in English.

Years earlier, Dr Thanni was already identifying perfect ingredients and formulating creams to manage his own battle with eczema but to top this off, he noticed a significant number of cases associated with skin conditions coming to his clinic as well. Already having significant knowledge from his own struggles, he shared this with his patients and gained popularity in the area of dermatological medicine.

Skincare Research & Thanni Skin Clinic 1990s
This was the catalyst that motivated him to do his postgraduate studies in dermatology and urinary medicine in England in 1986 followed by an apprenticeship with a popular dermatologist in Singapore by the name of Dr. Singaravellu.

Upon his return, the General Clinic he opened in Johor was transformed into a clinic with its primary focus on skin. The Thanni Skin Clinic was born.

Ray Thanni
YOUTH

Ray’s immersion into the world of skincare began in his youth, shaped by invaluable experiences assisting his father in the family’s skin clinic. A renowned dermatologist, his father’s five-decade legacy spoke volumes about his commitment to patient care since establishing the clinic in 1977, having treated well over 100,000 patients.

In the formative years of 12 to 16, Ray worked diligently alongside his father after school. These crucial years not only refined his diagnostic skills but also exposed him to the intricate art of formulation and the meticulous care required in patient observation and data analysis.

CAR CRASH
The transformative year of 2009 marked a pivotal moment in Ray’s life—a major automobile accident that left him with injuries, severe scarring, and disruptions to his hormonal balance, microbiome, and sebum production glands. This incident catapulted Ray into the realm of skincare, where he devoted his energy to enhancing his father’s formulations to address his skin conditions.

In 2009, a pivotal moment occurred with a major car accident, leaving Ray with injuries to his skin tissue, severe scarring, physical disability, keloids, and hyperpigmentation problems. This incident also triggered his eczema to manifest itself again from childhood, destabilizing his endocrine system and hormonal balance.

A DECADE OF DISCOVERY
This period of relentless dedication and innovation led to the discovery of numerous enhancements to their existing formulations. Ray collaborated closely with bio-chemists, dermal scientists, and dermatologists, ultimately playing an instrumental role in establishing the Bioderm Life Sciences lab alongside his father.

As a result of these events, Ray never stopped analysing skincare issues, leveraging data science techniques to enhance his father’s discoveries and formulations. The next 10 years were spent delving deep into the role of diet, microbiome health, bio-compatible ingredients, and their holistic ability to improve skin conditions for sensitive or dark skin phototypes.

This decade led to valuable enhancements to his father’s existing formulations. Ray tapped into the endocrine system, explored the role of pH, and integrated new technologies, all while collaborating with chemists and skincare experts.

EDUCATION & DISCOVERY
As Ray’s journey unfolded, he pursued studies in Data Science, earning a Master’s degree from Monash University. His unique position at the intersection of dermatological medicine and cosmeceutical formulation, influenced by his father’s legacy, served as a foundation for further exploration.

Ray also holds a Master’s in Management from Cranfield University in England and studied dermal science at Pastiche, a renowned Dermal Science Specialist School in New Zealand.

Ray’s journey embodies stoicism and unyielding determination, reflecting the wisdom gained from his father’s clinical lab and his own life experiences. As the stoic founder of Dr. Thanni Skincare, Ray continues to impact the world of skincare with his unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation.
